World Cup II – Duisburg2019
Duisburg welcomed us with hail and rain, but that was just a kind of joke because when the races started, the sun was already on the programme. So, it was sunny when Emma Jorgensenbeat the competition in K1 200, proving, once again, that she is, not only, one of the fastest women in the world but also one of most reliable. Since 2016 she never missed the podium in the most important competition of the season, including Olympic Games. Later, she would be second (ex aequowith Manon Hostens) in K1 500, making it a Top 3 Jantex with the Win of Anna Pulawska. The Polish rising star, after the bronze last season in the Europeans and the 4thplace in the Worlds, is getting more comfortable among the sprint elite and has an exciting future ahead of her.
Some words need to be said about the French Team in Duisburg. Women had an impressive performance: Manon Hostensgot the Silver in K1 500, the Gold in K2 500 with Sarah Guyot, and the two teaming with Sarah Troel andLea Jamelotwere Silver in K4 500. But, despite these results, the frenchs everyone was talking about after sunday morning Finals were Cyrrile Carréand Etienne Hubert. The duo not only won the K2 1000 but they did it in style: two hundred metres of pure speed and excitment to steal the gold from the hands of the german crew for just 0,010 of a second. A moment worth wactching in loop.
Like usual, the competition finished with the 5K races. Excellent performance of the Australian Alyssa Bull, Silver, and Jenny Egan, Bronze. On Men's side, after a very good race, Fernando Pimentaclaimed the gold (he was Bronze before in the K1 500) and Joakin Lindberggot the Bronze.
