Junior and U23 European Championship – Poznan 2021

Juniors and U23 competitions are like a glimpse into the future. For a few days we get to see the future stars in the beginning of their dream. It's been two years since Racice 2019 and even if some Juniors have been racing at the Olympic Hopes level, these European Championship in Poznan was their first time on a big stage.

Some athletes can handle the pressure even when they're not used to race sprint. Thorbjorn Rask, for instance, is very well known for his marathon skills – Junior World Champion in K1 and K2 in 2018 and U23 Silver Medalist in 2019 –, but not many people knew that he is also a world class sprinter. Now, it's no longer a secret. He is the new U23 K1 1000 and K1 500 European Champion. Double gold in Poznan also for Sara Fojt. The young hungarian dominated the Junior K1 500 race and, a few minutes later, the K2 500. Impressive performance from her too.

A very exciting race in the C1 200 Junior Women. Antia Otero, that we already saw racing at the senior level – won the World Cup last year in C2 200 and silver this season in the same event –, won the race and proved she has a bright future ahead of her. She came second in the C2 500. Also very promissing is Fanni Seres, second in the 200 metres canoe race. Let's hope for a new battle in Portugal.

Not a beginner on these stages is Adrienn Orosz. After a disappointing European Chanmpionship in Racice, she turned the table and became the U23 European Champion. Irene Bellan was bronze.

Surprising and tastefull win in the K1 200 for Jakub Stepun. The polish sprinter beat Dmytro Danilenko, World Cup Medalist. The Bronze went for  Denislav Tsvetanov.
