SPRINT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – COPENHAGEN 2021
It's not every year that we get to go to Denmark for a Sprint World Championship. As bonus, Copenhagen gave us one more chance to watch the best sprinters in 2021 and to the athletes the perfect competition to heal olympic wounds or to confirm a good performance in Tokyo.
For sure, the biggest surprise was Aimee Fisher. She returned as a storm gliding over danish waters on the K1 500. From the first stroke she showed that she was coming for no less than Gold. An amazing result that is the clean way out from two very dificult years. Fantastic race also of Emma Jorgensen finishing third after the Gold in the K1 200 (bronze for Natalia Podolskaya) the day before. All that in front of a familiar audience. Another star shinning in Denmark was Volha Khudzenka: Gold in the K4 and Silver in the K2 500. Elena Aniushina and Svetlana Chernigovskaya returned home with a bronze in the K4 500.
A classic on our the best results table is Fernando Pimenta. The bronze in Tokyo tasted good, but he was hungry for more and a second world title in the K1 1000 was the perfect way to satiate that hunger and start a new cycle. After all, Paris is only three years from now. In the last day, he would win a Silver Medal in a very emotional race for the danish supporters that celebrated like a win the Bronze of Mads Pedersen. The Marathon World Champion proved that he is in great shape two weeks before the Worlds in Pitesti.
Dmytro Danylenko and Ivan Semykin are cementing their position among the best in the world. They missed Tokyo but they showed that they are ready to fight with the stars with a flawless K4 500 race beating the Olympic Bronze Medalists from Slovakia with Samuel Balaz and Denis Mysak, Silver in Copenhagen. The slovakians are also building an amazing team. These two raced to Bronze in the K2 500, one of the new Olympic events in Paris 2024.
Canoe women is very well established already and we are making our way into it. Some very good results already with our canoe paddle Kappa. This time it was the Belarussian C2 with Nadezda Makarchanka. Very promising C2.
Paracanoe is more competitive every season. Just a few weeks after the Olympic the Para athletes gaves a show to remember. What a great morning for the Ukranian team: Gold for Serhii Yemelianov, Maryna Mazhula and Mykola Syniuk. But not only of Ukranian golds was the Paracanoe competition.
