WILDWATER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – BRATISLAVA 2021
Wildwater and Slalom moved to Bratislava for a joint World Championship two years after La Seul d'Urgell in Spain. Maybe that's a way for the ICF to notice that the well established Downriver community deserves more and give it the visibility.
Many things happened in Slovakia:
Lise Vinet secured the fourth consecutive world title for France in the Women's K1 – Bronze for Jil-Sophie Eckert;
Three-time Olympic Champions Peter and Pavol Hochsorner retired in front of their home audience, in a race where Pierre Troubady and Hugues Moret took the Bronze;
Charles Ferrion finished second with the same time of his teammate Quentin Dazeur;
Both Men and Women K1 winners paddled with Jantex;
Top three of the Men's Final were Jantex;
But everything stayed under the shadow of the fifth Sprint World title of Nejc Znidarcic, third in a row. He won before in 2011, 2012, 2018 and 2019. Making history in every stroke, he is one of the most successful Downriver/Wildwater athletes of all times, leaving behind Jean Pierre Burny and Markus Gickler, both with four K1 wins each.
French paddlers closed the podium with Luca Barone Silver and Maxence Barough Bronze.
In the Men's Team race, tight win for Germany with Till Fengler and Yannic Lemmen, Silver for France with Luca Barone, Maxence Barough and Hugues Moret and Bronze for Slovenia with Nejc Znidarcic, Anze Urankar andSimon Oven.
Barbora Dimovova from Czech Republic took the Gold in the Women's Team race, Jil-Sophie Eckert and Elisabeth Kostle from Germany the Silver and Bronze for the French Pauline Freslon, Lise Vinet and Phenicia Dupras.
